Code of Ethics & Standards of Conduct

As a coach I adhere to the following code of conduct.

  1. Remember that players participate for pleasure and winning is only part of the fun.
  2. Never ridicule or yell at players for making a mistake or not winning.
  3. Be reasonable in my demands on players’ time, energy and enthusiasm.
  4. Operate within the rules and spirit of the game and teach my players to do the same.
  5. Ensure that the time players spend with me is a positive experience. All players are deserving of equal attention and opportunities.
  6. Avoid overplaying talented players. All players deserve adequate playing and training time, regardless of their ability. This is not to imply all players must play. Coaches should be aware of the SRS playing requirements and understand those are minimum requirements.
  7. Ensure that equipment and facilities meet safety standards and are appropriate to the age, maturity and ability of all players.
  8. Display control, respect and professionalism to all involved with soccer including prohibiting the use of profanity. This includes, but is not limited to, opponents, coaches, officials, administrators, the media, parents and spectators. I will encourage my players to do the same.
  9. Show concern and caution toward sick and injured players. Follow the advice of a physician when determining whether an injured player is ready to practice or play.
  10. Keep up to date with the latest coaching practices and the principles of growth and development of young players.
  11. Understand that any physical contact with a player should be appropriate to soccer situations and necessary for the player’s development.
  12. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every young person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
  13. Believe that my role as a coach is to contribute to the overall success, physical, and athletic growth of each player through participation in soccer.
  14. Endeavor to be a good instructor and a positive role model for my players.
  15. Remember my behavior brings credit to myself  and the sport of soccer.
  16. Believe that referees, just as coaches and players, are attempting to do their best.
  17. Understand that my attitude can influence the players, coaches and spectators.
  18. Demand a sports environment for the children that is free from drugs, tobacco, and alcohol and I will refrain from their use at all Soccer events.
  19. I agree not to have any email, instant messaging or text communication with players of a personal nature. Email blasts relating to practice times and locations, game time and location or team events are permitted. The team manager should be copied on any communications with players. Should a player send me a communication is violation of this policy I will immediate notify the player’s parent of such communication.
  20. I agree not to encourage SRS players to move to a competing club even if I were to switch job to coach for that competing club.
